REGISTRATION OF CHILDREN BORN OVERSEAS TO GUYANESE PARENT
APPLICANTS BORN AFTER MAY 26, 1966:
Eligibility
- The person to be registered must be born on or after May 26, 1966.
- At least one (1) parent whose name is recorded on the Foreign Birth Certificate MUST be a Guyanese by birth.
Requirements Checklist
- Letter of application addressed to the Guyana High Commission requesting to be registered as a Guyanese.
- Original Birth Certificate of the person being registered. Births not registered in English must be accompanied by an official translation and apostilled by the issuing country.
- Original or copy of the Birth Certificate of the Guyanese parent, whose name must be recorded on the foreign Birth Certificate. The parent’s name on the Overseas birth certificate must correspond with the name stated on the foreign birth certificate. In the event that it does not, documents such as deed poll (change of name document); affidavit of identity or marriage certificate in the case of married women should be submitted with the application. Additional documents may be required and will be requested if necessary.
- Copy of valid photo identification of person making the application. Also, a copy of the bio-data page of person to be registered.
- Both parents must provide a written letter consenting to the Registration of underaged children.
- Payment of £20 for the registration application. Fees can be paid via Bank Transfer or in person. Bank transfers are accepted after the original application is received by the High Commission.
Postage paid return self-addressed envelope or payment of £15 for returns within the United Kingdom. Applicants outside of the United Kingdom are required to arrange a courier for the collection of their documents.
Process
The processing time for Registrations applications is approximately 12 to 16 weeks.
Note
- The child’s foreign birth certificate will not be returned but will be retained by the High Commission for its records.
- On receipt of the Certificate of Registration of Birth, the registrant becomes eligible to apply for a Guyana passport.
- Persons who were previously issued with a Guyana passport but did not complete the Registration process will first need to register before a new passport can be issued.
- Unfortunately, the Guyana High Commission will not be able to accept applications which do not fulfil the above requirements.
APPLICANTS BORN BEFORE MAY 26,1966:
Unfortunately, the Guyana High Commission is unable to accept applications for persons born before May 26, 1966, such persons will need to make an application directly to the Immigration Support Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Georgetown Guyana to enquire how they can obtain citizenship, Email – hrcitizenship@gmail.com
Persons falling under this category and residing outside of Guyana, it should be noted that you are required to conduct two (2) interviews as follows:
- At Immigration and Support Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Lot 6 Brickdam, Georgetown (This Interview may be required based on the guidance provided by the Immigration and Support Services during the application process)
- At the Central Immigration and Passport Office, Camp Road, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
Applicants can either send the forms or submit in person when visiting Guyana. The applicant will however need to be in Guyana to conduct the interviews.

REGISTRATION AS A CITIZEN OF GUYANA BY MARRIAGE
Persons who are married to a Guyanese Citizen and are desirous of applying for Guyanese Citizenship must submit their applications to the Immigration Support Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Guyana.

NATURALIZATION AS A CITIZEN OF GUYANA
Persons can also apply for Guyanese Citizenship if they are a citizen of a Commonwealth country as stated in the constitution of Guyana or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland. He/she must show that he/she has been ordinarily resident in Guyana or has been in the service, throughout the period of five (5) years ending with the date of his application.
Persons desirous of applying for Naturalization as a citizen of Guyana must submit their applications to the Immigration Support Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Guyana.
